Do I Need a Website

Smoke the Competition with a Responsive Restaurant Website

Whether you are the authentic Italian restaurant deeply rooted in the old country or the eccentric Japanese fusion place with a new menus daily, you need Responsive Web Design for your website. If you’ve read our blog on Responsive Web Design you understand the function and importance of having it. For the rest of you sorry folk, previously ungraced by our wit and intelligence, this blog will quickly introduce you to Responsive Web Design and dive into why a responsive restaurant website is the way to go.

Without a Responsive Restaurant Website

You understand the importance of spicing up your menu and providing ambiance but you make the conscious decision to keep up that bland, outdated site up as your online representation. Are you serious? Imagine this…. (These are my actual pain-points) I recently moved to Long Island. In the Mineola area it seems that every other building is a restaurant or deli. During lunch my first week  I would drive down the street and be immediately overwhelmed by the options. There has to be over 50 places to choose from within the few blocks around us. So what did I do? I pulled over, got on my phone and got to searching. Most of the sites were absolutely brutal to go through. With my phone on my lap, both hands employing three fingers for help, I tried to navigate these sites. I had to zoom in, scroll, zoom out, get the phone as close as I could to try and read these little words. The first few pages of Google had me feeling frustrated and defeated. I think the first day I said, “Screw it” and came back to the office empty handed. Now don’t think that I am being ridiculous. We are in an age of new consumers. With technology that fits in your pocket and almost always within reach we are making more informed decisions. We aren’t just picking things at random, we do the research. Being modern consumers there is a need instant gratification. If it takes too long to load, you’ve lost them. Lack of desired information after a few clicks, bye-bye. You’re pushing them towards your competition.

Finally Found It

After about a week of bagged lunches I was sick of cold cut sandwiches and the same old Lays. With my stomach making unearthly noises I got to searching. Now don’t ask me why but even with my computer in front of me, I sat back in my chair with my iPhone and started scrolling. First few sites gave me a flashback to the nightmare that was my first lunch experience. This time however it was a faster process. No messing around, you don’t have what I’m looking for you are not getting a minute of my time. Second page, three results down, I clicked and was greeted with a single column site navigation menu. Halle-freaking-lujah. Boom! Phone number right under the restaurant name. Boom! Menu option right below the About Us section. The menu was organized and readable. Scrolling through the menu with just my thumb. Now that’s what I’m talking about. With a responsive restaurant website your site will adapt to the ever-changing world of technology. Responsive Web Design uses a fluid grid to adapt the way your site is viewed to the different screen sizes and resolutions. Images scale to fit perfectly. Layout adapt to provide the bet reading experience. At the same time that the design and layout is changing it is keeping the consistency of your message and branding.
