Pandas, hummingbirds and penguins might sound like the inhabitants of your local zoo (and you would probably be right) but they are a little bit more than that. Over the past few years each one has served to update and improve Google’s search engine in an effort to weed out spammy websites in favor of those who generate more traffic and produce content that adheres to Google’s standards. The updates have effectively outdated some older, standard practice search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. Techniques that could be sending your website to the deepest regions of Google search and effectively rendering your greatest digital asset, useless. We have listed some blackhat SEO tactics below and, if you find you have committed any of these, you may want to reach out to a digital marketing agency to get your website back on track.
3 Blackhat SEO Techniques That Will Send You to Google’s Dog House
Content Is King!
This is America! We may like royalty (see how many people here follow the royal family) but we do not enjoy being ruled by them. As evidenced by our actions on July, 4th 1776 (see Declaration of Independence). Declaring content is king without the proper community or targeted outreach is like declaring yourself king and then every one of your subjects ignores you. That is not how power works. Yes, your content should be well written, original and serve as a sales tool for your business. If it is not then you may want to consider revising your blog otherwise it will do nothing to boost your SEO. You’ll be entering the world of blackhat SEO.
Keyword Stuffing
According to Google, “keyword stuffing” refers to, “the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a sites ranking in Google search results.” So if you have tagged your site with a lot of unnecessary and unrelated keywords or you have repeated the same words or phrases over and over again then you could find yourself in Google’s dog house (which is where all the blackhat SEO companies go).
Link Farms
Have you ever seen a site with a lot of backlinks (and many of them are unrelated)? If you have, chances are that you have stumbled upon a blackhat SEO link farm. And Google, does not like link farms. They do a very good job of relegating those sites to the very furthest pages of Google Search so if you notice your business has started a link farm then it may be time to abandon ship and start your website over from scratch.
