2021 is finally here. While many struggles of last year persist, we are all ready to dump 2020. Saying goodbye and flipping the calendar gives us a renewed sense of optimism.
Looking back, one of the strongest factors that got us through such difficult times was knowing that we were not, and are not, in it alone.
Some of the biggest brands felt the impact of this pandemic alongside us and brought us the best commercials of 2020. We can now lean on them to help us find closure as we all relate to the emotions brought on by the rollercoaster that was 2020.
The Best Commercials of 2020 We Can All Relate To
The five stages of closure are as follows:
- Denial
- Panic
- Sadness
- Anger
- Closure
We collected our four favorite commercials from 2020 to help us all move on.
Stage 1: Denial
Not all of us process hardship in the same way, but for many, we use comedy to try and downplay the severity of disappointing situations. The following commercial for Match made up an alternate reality and characters to help explain the hellish events that ensued in 2020:

Stage 2: Panic
People hate change. Most of us had to face new realities this past year when it came to working and living situations. Apple aired a commercial that illustrates how a majority of young professionals are facing their careers in a virtual world, and we believe it to be one of the best commercials of 2020:
Stage 3: Sadness
Get your tissues out. Like the focal character in the following Amazon commercial, many of us had big dreams for 2020 that never came to fruition.

(We’re going to skip Stage 4 because there’s been enough anger for one year.)
Stage 5: Closure
“Nothing can stop what we can do together.” Our final commercial pick from Nike reiterates that we are not alone in this. All of the unfairness that was brought to light in 2020 can be changed when we come together.

These narratives brought to screens make us feel closer and give us a shoulder to lean on after such trying times. The team at Fat Guy Media is ready to move on from 2020 and look to the future.
Here’s to a brighter 2021!
